Tiny Chefs Weekly: What Does Fall Taste Like?
Hi there, Tiny Chef families! 👋
Have you ever noticed how each season has a flavor?
🍁 Fall tastes like cinnamon and roasted apples.
🍠 It smells like nutmeg, toasted oats, and baking bread.
🥣 It sounds like soup bubbling on the stove or leaves crunching outside the kitchen door.
This week, we're slowing things down to help kids engage their senses in the kitchen—because cooking is about so much more than just eating! It's about discovering textures, trying new flavors, and noticing the little details that make food fun.
Let’s explore the flavor of fall—together. 🧑🍳
👅 Sensory Spotlight: What Can You Smell, See, and Hear?
Here are 3 ways to make your fall kitchen more engaging and educational for your Tiny Chef:
👃 Sniff & Guess:
Let your child smell ingredients before using them—like cinnamon, vanilla, or fresh herbs.
➡️ Can they guess what it is? Do any scents remind them of a memory?
👂 Listen Up:
Ask them to notice what food sounds like while chopping, stirring, or baking.
➡️ Does the apple crunch? Is the soup bubbling?
🖐 Touch & Describe:
Let kids describe how ingredients feel: is it sticky, smooth, bumpy, or crumbly?
➡️ Try this with oats, flour, mashed sweet potato, or even bread dough.
This kind of sensory exploration builds food confidence, vocabulary, and curiosity—and it makes cooking way more fun!
