Falling for Baking!

πHello, Tiny Chefs!
Here at Tiny Chefs, we believe that creating food is an art! When it comes to art, one of the most important aspects is color; food is no different! Whether you are icing a cake, making a salad, or searing a steak, color can be one of the best indicators of great flavors!
While food coloring does not change the flavor of a recipe, it does give us a good idea of how to change the mood and overall experience of a dish! Check out this food coloring activity with your Tiny Chef to learn about blending colors like an artist.
The Magic of Food Coloring π¨
Have you ever noticed how adding just a drop of color can transform an ordinary batch of frosting or dough into something magical? β¨ Food coloring isnβt just about making things pretty β itβs a chance for kids (and grown-ups!) to explore creativity, color theory, and a little kitchen science too!
Start with the basics:
Think of the primary colors β red, yellow, and blue. From these three, you can make almost any color you want!
π Red + Blue = Purple
π Blue + Yellow = Green
𧑠Red + Yellow = Orange
Get your Tiny Chefs engaged! Let kids experiment with small bowls of white icing, pancake batter, or even milk β adding one drop of color at a time and watching what happens as they mix and blend.
Pro Tip: Use gel food coloring instead of liquid drops for deeper, richer colors without changing your recipeβs texture.
π Creative Challenge:
Encourage kids to mix their own βsignature colorβ and give it a fun, fall-inspired name β like Harvest Sunset Orange, Crisp Apple Red, Golden Leaf Yellow, Cozy Sweater Brown, or Autumn Sky Blue!
Blending food colors helps kids develop a sense of creativity and patience β theyβll see how small changes can create big results. And just like in art, itβs all about experimenting, adjusting, and discovering what feels right. π¨
